General Patent Corporation International Licenses Acticon Patents to Compaq and Two Other Companies

SUFFERN, NY, November 7, 2001 - Acticon Technologies LLC (Acticon) has recently entered into license agreements with several companies regarding its four "smart connector" patents, including Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) of Houston, TX. General Patent Corporation International (GPCI), an intellectual property management firm headquartered in Suffern, New York, represented Acticon in these transactions.

"We are pleased to extend a license under the Acticon patents to Compaq, a leading worldwide vendor of personal computers," said Alexander Poltorak, GPCI's chairman and CEO. "This is another testimony to the industry's high regard for Acticon's award-winning 'smart connector' technology, which has become a de facto standard in mobile communications," he added.

Other companies that have recently licensed the Acticon patents include Simple Technology (NASDAQ:STEC), a Santa Ana, CA vendor of PCMCIA cards, and Card Access, Inc. of American Fork, UT, the vendor of the Springboard Thinmodem.

"We hope that other vendors will follow Compaq's lead and join our family of licensees," said Dr. Steven Farago, Acticon's chief technologist. "Non-exclusive licenses are available on favorable terms under our 'smart connector' patents."

Acticon "smart connector" patents cover specific aspects of PC cards and other "smart" connector devices used in mobile computer communication, networking, and instrumentation control. More than 85% of the PC cards sold in the United States today are licensed under the Acticon patents. GPCI has successfully represented Acticon in 30 licensing transactions and seven litigations.
